{"id":22,"date":"2016-03-15T21:01:35","date_gmt":"2016-03-15T21:01:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.csispecialist.com\/?page_id=22"},"modified":"2016-03-15T21:08:52","modified_gmt":"2016-03-15T21:08:52","slug":"windows-10","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/csispecialist.com\/index.php\/tips-tricks-and-links\/windows-10\/","title":{"rendered":"Windows 10"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Windows 10 is here and Microsoft wants you to upgrade for free.\u00a0\u00a0 It turns out that just like Google; Microsoft found that making money off advertising and information collecting is a better route.\u00a0\u00a0 Google does this through a search engine but Microsoft is now doing it through their operating system.<\/p>\n<p>There are some fundamental breaking points that can be encountered during installation:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Software compatibility.\u00a0 Some of your older (and newer) software just won\u2019t run in Windows 10.<\/li>\n<li>Network compatibility.\u00a0 If you blindly install Windows 10 using all the defaults it will create a login to their servers over the internet and not to your local machines.\u00a0 This works for a single computer but if you have computers that are networked and the upgrade is installed incorrectly you may be in trouble.\u00a0 In addition, using the defaults may cause some privacy issues.\u00a0 If you are mobile from computer to computer and want all your personal settings to tag along everywhere you go, this is a great help.\u00a0 It isn\u2019t so good for people who want to keep their privacy.\u00a0 All your personal settings including their login information is stored with Microsoft.<\/li>\n<li>Hardware compatibility.\u00a0 Printers are the most affected by this because Microsoft is implementing a universal printing mechanism that will require all printers to ultimately print through Windows instead of allowing printer manufacturers to use specific drivers.\u00a0 This is actually a good thing.\u00a0 If you have ever tried using multiple printers you will understand.\u00a0 Also some manufacturers do not always make the most compatible drivers. However, depending on the printer, you may need to purchase a replacement.\u00a0 This is not limited to printers unfortunately.\u00a0 There is a lot of hardware that simply will not work with Windows 10.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">CAN I UPGRADE SAFELY?<\/h2>\n<p>There are still two things to consider when upgrading to Windows 10.<\/p>\n<p>1. Is my hardware compatible?<br \/>\n2. Is my software compatible?<\/p>\n<p>There is a simple way to answer both of these questions with a fairly good degree of accuracy.\u00a0 The Windows 8 compatibility tool will do most of the work for you.\u00a0 Although there is not one for Windows 10 the Windows 8 version works quite well.\u00a0 If it will work with Windows it will also work for Windows 10.\u00a0\u00a0 Although there are some specialized packages that need to be considered on a case by case basis.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/p\/?LinkId=261871\" target=\"_blank\">Get Windows Compatibility Tool Here<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/p\/?LinkId=261871\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">PRIVACY CONCERNS<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Cortana \/ Bing:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When you use the default search in Windows 10, everything you do is sent to Microsoft Bing.\u00a0 Yes, we are talking about the default search that you use to find files and programs normally on your computer.\u00a0\u00a0 Microsoft has changed the search parameters to automatically include the web.<\/p>\n<p>On the plus side this will expand things you can search on.<\/p>\n<p>On the minus side this may give you too many results and obscure what you are really looking for.<\/p>\n<p>But, in either case, any searches you do, whether for personal files or not, your search is recorded at Bing and your history is forever documented on the internet.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>WiFi:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Microsoft has extended the abilities of it&#8217;s WiFi service to what they call &#8220;WiFi Sense&#8221;.\u00a0 For all intensive purposes this should work for most people very well.\u00a0\u00a0 It allows Windows to memorize WiFi hot spots and use them wherever you go.\u00a0 It also gives you the option to share your internet connection with your friends.\u00a0 The downside here is again privacy.\u00a0 The way Microsoft finds your friends is to look through your Outlook\/outlook.com, Skype and Facebook accounts to determine who your friends are.\u00a0\u00a0 The only service that they request information from is Facebook because they own the other two services so they are automatic.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Windows 10 is here and Microsoft wants you to upgrade for free.&nbsp;&nbsp; It turns out that just like Google; Microsoft found that making money off advertising and information collecting is a better route.&nbsp;&nbsp; Google does this through a search engine but Microsoft is now doing it through their operating system.
